Am I paying too much the Extended Health Care Plan?

Participation in the Manulife Extended Health Care plan is mandatory for all WSD teachers.  When they are hired, the Division enrolls all new teachers in family status, unless the teacher informs the Division that they are single.  Sometimes a new teacher doesn’t submit the form required to identify themselves as single with no spouse or dependents.  Premiums for members enrolled in a family status is $106 per month.  The rate for single status is $51 per month.  Single teachers incorrectly enrolled in family status are paying more than twice as much as they should for Extended Health Care coverage.

To confirm you are correctly enrolled, review your payroll information on Employee Connect – Deposit/Cheques.  Extended Health Care premiums are deducted in the line titled MED ENH TEACH MED.  Payments are made every two weeks so if your premium deduction is $25.50, you are enrolled as single with no spouse or dependents.  If your premium deduction is $53, you are enrolled in a family status.

If you are enrolled in the wrong status, call the WSD Benefits Clerk at 204-775-0231 and ask for a correction.
